A Newbies Guide to Alibaug

Just 110 kilometres away from Mumbai, the beachy vibes of Alibaug make it the perfect weekend getaway. This little coastal town has become the go-to place for A-listers for all things that define luxury and relaxation. Getting There

The quickest transport to get to Alibaug from Mumbai, is by boat from the Gateway of India in Mumbai’s south region to Madwa Jetty.  It is an hour’s ride by ferry and approximately 20 minutes in a speed boat. Additionally, from the jetty getting to Alibaug takes about 30-40 minutes by bus or auto rickshaw. The only downside of this transportation method is that they do not function during the monsoon season and post 6 pm everyday. In which case, travelling by road is also another option. It takes upto three and a half hours by car, and there’s also an option of taking a bus. 

When to Go

The best time to visit Alibaug in order to enjoy the beaches and the weather is during the months from November to July. The months from August to October is the perfect time to get cosy in your own holiday home while watching the rainy days go by.

 

What to Do and See 

Beaches

First and foremost, Alibaug is famous for its beaches. Alibaug Beach, is the most common and frequently visited beach. It has a spectacular view of the Kolaba Fort, which is only 1 km away from the shore and can be visited by a boat ride from the beach or by taking a walk. Also, another beach that is a lot less crowded and hence preferred by some people is Varsoli Beach. Other popular beaches in and around Alibaug are Nagaon Beach, where water sports are very popular, Kihim Beach, a photographer’s delight and Madawa Beach.

  

Churches and Temples

Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple is an attraction for most visitors of Alibaug. This temple is on a 900 ft high hill and one must climb 750 steps to reach the top of the temple. There are many more temples and churches in Alibaug, that are frequently visited by individuals. 

Water Sport Activities

In Maharashtra, Alibaug is a preferred area for water sport activities. Popularly, people go to Nagaon Beach for the same purpose. This place is a paradise for activities like kayaking, jet skiing, scuba diving, and a lot more. 

 

Nature Lovers Agenda

Native Bio-diversity Garden is a must-visit natural attraction in Alibaug. This 1.5 acre garden holds a variety of plants and  butterflies species for you to learn about! 

Where to Eat

Right at the Mandwa Jetty there is an array of fine-dine restaurants such as Boardwalk by Flamboyante and Kiki’s Cafe and Deli. Kokum & Spice, a fine-dine restaurant in Radisson Blu caters famously delicious seafood. Apart from these,  Bohemyan Blue, a trending cafe called is located on Alibaug-Mandwa main road.
